Women’s History Month at Field Museum Highlights Variety of Research

From dinosaurs to snakes to fossil meteorites, Women’s History Month has featured a lineup of events highlighting women in science at the Field Museum.
Associate Curator of Paleontology Jingmai O’Connor, Ph.D., started off the month by discussing dinosaurs as part of the March 1 Armour Research Seminar, which included talks by Carina Hoorn - Keynote speaker, University of Amsterdam (March 8), followed by research scientist Maria Valdes, Ph.D. (March 15).
Valdes, who studies space rocks millions of years old to try to find out what secrets they can tell about our solar system, also made an appearance in the Field Museum’s Grainger Science Hub in early March. She will return to the Hub for a presentation called “Meteorites from the Moon, Mars, and Asteroids” on March 24.
The month will conclude with a final Meet a Scientist with Associate Curator of Herpetology Sara Ruane with a March 31 discussion about anacondas. For more information, please contact press@fieldmuseum.org.
