<p>Join the Field Museum, in collaboration with the Japanese American Service Committee, at Shared Stories, Shared Future: An Educator Symposium on AANHPI Histories and Belonging. This event celebrates the culmination of a three-year journey exploring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) histories and stories through education, community partnerships, and museum learning. The event will feature a screening of <em>Making Waves: The Rise of Asian America</em>, a film by JJML Productions, followed by a panel discussion with educators and young advocates who helped champion the TEAACH Act in Illinois. Breakout sessions, cultural activation stations, and cultural performances to follow. Field Museum Connections: AANHPI stories and the TEAACH Act programming is made possible with the generous support of the Cyrus Tang Foundation.</p>

<p>The Field Museum welcomes <a href="https://www.adlerplanetarium.org/explore/about-us/who-we-are/">Elizabeth Babcock, PhD</a>, who joined Museum Campus neighbor Adler Planetarium as President and CEO in 2025. &nbsp;Before joining the Adler, she served as the Founding Director of the Smithsonian American Women&rsquo;s History Museum in Washington, D.C., where she laid the groundwork for a new national museum focused on women&rsquo;s history, advanced a multimillion-dollar campaign, and expanded national support for the museum.</p>
<p><span>This lecture will take place in the Founders' Room, and is part of our <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/activity/womens-history-month">Women's History Month</a> programming&ndash; commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in history.&nbsp;</span></p>

<p dir="auto">Insects live in a world dominated by odors that are produced by food, potential mates, and would-be predators. An insect's antennae are key to making sense of this complexity, because they are sensitive to chemicals that distinguish friend from foe or food from toxin.</p>
<p dir="auto">Meet Postdoctoral Researcher Rowan French and investigate the biology and importance of chemical communication in shaping the lives and diversity of insects. See plant-feeding beetle specimens up-close, learn about some of the compounds beetles use to find their food plants or mates at the &ldquo;smell station&rdquo;, and discover how scientists take advantage of beetles' chemical sensitivities when designing traps for management, conservation, and research.</p>

<p>Scientists, researchers, and collections managers are behind the scenes every day, uncovering new information and taking care of our collection.</p>

<p>During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the <em><a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibition/halls-and-galleries/grainger-science-hub">Grainger&nbsp;Science Hub</a></em>. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection of nearly 40 million objects. From collections care to field work, and dinosaurs to ecology, there&rsquo;s a world of science to explore.</p>

<h2>Keynote</h2>

<p>On May 21, 2025, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome <span>Sera Young, PhD </span>as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.</p>

<p>Dr. Young is a Professor of Anthropology and Global Health at Northwestern University, and she has dedicated her career to understanding how women work to preserve their health and that of their families. Her research focuses on maternal and child undernutrition in the first 1,000 days of life, particularly in low-resource settings.</p>

<p>Notably, Dr. Young led a large team in the development of the first globally equivalent way of measuring water access &ndash; the WISE (Water InSecurity Experiences) Scales. These scales have been used by 100+ organizations in 50+ countries to tackle some of the world&rsquo;s most pressing health challenges.</p>

<p>She has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed publications, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, and National Geographic. Recent accolades include the Margaret Mead Award for her book Craving Earth, an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, and the Norman Kretchmer Memorial Award in Nutrition and Development.</p>

<h2>Keynote</h2>

<p>On May 12, 2026, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome Adji Bousso Dieng as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.</p>

<p>Adji Bousso Dieng is a Senegalese scientist and Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University, where she leads Vertaix, a research group at the intersection of AI and the natural sciences. She is affiliated with multiple institutes across engineering, materials, quantum science, energy, and the environment, and previously was a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind (2020&ndash;2025). She is also the founder of the nonprofit The Africa I Know, which promotes STEM education in Africa.</p>

<p>Dieng's transdisciplinary work has earned major international recognition. Most recently, she was nominated by the UN Secretary-General as one of 40 experts on the inaugural International Scientific Panel on AI. She was awarded the 2025 Prix Galien Africa Special Prize, a Schmidt Sciences AI2050 Early Career Fellowship, and honors from the American Statistical Association and Columbia University. Her work has been featured in outlets such as Nature, New Scientist, Le Monde, Forbes, and Business Insider. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, where her thesis received both a Google Ph.D. Fellowship and the Leonard J. Savage Award.</p>

<p>Free Wednesdays are the perfect opportunity for you to explore our basic admission exhibitions with your family or a group of science-loving friends. Adventure through the wilderness on a desert safari, explore ancient civilizations, and come face-to-face with prehistoric creatures&mdash; all in one place. The Field Museum has so much to explore, you&rsquo;ll need more than just a day to see it all. <span>But don&rsquo;t worry&mdash;Wednesdays are free for Illinois Residents.</span></p>
<p>Tickets for Free Days are only available to Illinois residents. For your convenience, free day tickets are available for advanced reservation online. Please present your proof of Illinois residency alongside your mobile tickets for express admission into the Museum. Tickets will also be available onsite subject to availability.
