<p>Make discoveries &mdash; and memories!&mdash;at the Field Museum seasonal camps. Campers will encounter the natural world and human cultures through exciting and fun experiences. Make friends, learn how Field Museum scientists do their work, investigate using real scientific tools, and discover a whole new side of science.</p>
<p>Field Explorers Day Off Camps are for children in grades 1-4, or equivalent. These new camps will be offered several times throughout the school year during typical school break periods.&nbsp;</p>

<li>Two-day sessions, 9am-3pm, Monday-Tuesday</li>
<li>Camps cost $200 per session for the general public and $180 for museum members</li>
<li><i>Please note: This camp is<span>&nbsp;</span><u>not</u><span>&nbsp;</span>an overnight event.</i></li>

<p>Join award-winning children's book author Jennifer Swanson as she unveils her newest book, <em>3 Weeks in the Rainforest: A Rapid Inventory in the Amazon</em>, and leads a conversation with featured conservation scientists from the Keller Science Action Center.&nbsp; Hear first-hand accounts of the critical work the conservation team is leading in the Amazon, documented in this compelling, non-fiction, photo-illustrated read.</p>
<p>Developed in partnership with the Field Museum, this action-packed book, which earned a <a href="https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/jennifer-swanson/3-weeks-in-the-rainforest/" target="_blank" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/jennifer-swanson/3-weeks-in-the-rainforest/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1762888975496000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1N9cSMtMt1o2CgdnFJr1_H" rel="noopener">Kirkus</a> starred review, focuses on Rapid Inventory 30, which was conducted in Colombia with the help of local and Indigenous scientists and community members. The book follows the women-led team of scientists as they race to gather data over three precious weeks in the field. Photographs from the scientists themselves give readers a glimpse into real-life fieldwork in the Amazon that will captivate STEM readers and the next generation of scientists.</p>

A Rapid Inventory in the Amazon - Book Launch

Explore how to honor diverse beliefs and traditions in your classroom.

<p>Join us at the Field Museum on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10am-2pm for a professional learning opportunity designed to engage educators in deep content learning with the Museum&rsquo;s collections, with particular emphasis on Ruatepupuke II, the Māori Meeting House.</p>
<p>This program will help educators explore how to approach teaching about diverse beliefs and traditions with care. As a case study, we will look at how to incorporate artifact inquiry when an artifact, like the Māori Meeting House, is not an object but an ancestor.</p>
<p>Participants will</p>
<ul>
<li>Understand: How to honor diverse beliefs by incorporating non-Western stories and traditions into instruction.</li>
<li>Do: Role-play responding to student and parent questions about cultures and religious traditions that might be different from their own.</li>
<li>Feel: Prepared to teach about diverse beliefs with care.Registration is open to formal and informal educators of all levels.</li>
</ul>
<p>Illinois Educators will earn 4 hours of Professional Development for attending this workshop.<br />Registration will remain open until Friday, December 5, 2025, or until full.</p>

A. Watson Armour III Research Seminar Series

Explore various specimens collected from the rainforests during the Field Museum's Rapid Inventory 32.

<p>Indigenous Waiwai people in southern Guyana own and manage the Kanashen Amerindian Protected Area (KAPA), a 625,000-hectare reserve. KAPA is the only Indigenous-owned and protected territory within Guyana's National Protected Areas System.</p>
<p>Come meet Phillip Suse, manager of KAPA and community collaborator with the Field Museum's Keller Science Action Center. With a team of Waiwai Rangers from the community, Phillip is responsible for regular monitoring activities to protect biodiversity and safeguard the headwaters of the Essequibo River-- the largest in Guyana.</p>
<p>Phillip will discuss the community&rsquo;s approach to conservation, the importance of collaboration between Western scientists and Indigenous peoples, and the community's participation in the Field Museum's Rapid Inventory 32, a survey of biodiversity and local ecological knowledge.</p>
<p>Visitors to this session will explore various mammal specimens from Guyana, as well as fish and plant specimens collected from the rainforests east of KAPA Indigenous lands during the Field Museum's Rapid Inventory 32.</p>
<p>Presenters include Elliott Oakley, Field Museum Environmental Social Scientist; Farah Carrasco, Field Museum Conservation Ecologist; Phillip Suse, Kanashen Amerindian Protected Area Manager; <span>Diego Santana, Curator of Amphibians and Conservation Ecologist</span></p>

Lewis collection, new contemporary items, and various media from the Field's Papua New Guinea collection. At nearly 35,000 items, the Field Museum cares for the largest collection of material from the country of Papua New Guinea currently in the United States.</p>

<p>Children under the age of 6 will not be admitted into a Dozin' with the Dinos event. Adults may not attend Dozin' with the Dinos without a child between the ages of 6-12.</p>

<p>Families and groups with children under the age of 6 and any adults who attend without children in their party will be asked to leave the event without a refund. Refunds may be requested for tickets purchased by mistake until 2 weeks prior to the event. No refunds will be given within 2 weeks of the event.</p>

<h3>Welcome to Dozin' with the Dinos at the Field Museum</h3>


<p>See the Field Museum in a whole new light! Families and groups with kids ages 6 to 12 can spend the night at the museum during Dozin' with the Dinos.</p>
<p>Stay up late with scientists as the Field Museum comes to life in games, challenges, and stories throughout the night. Will you dissect owl pellets and identify animal tracks to become the next great wildlife detective? Or, will you embark on a paleontologist's expedition to learn how fossils form? Take on these adventures and more with the Dozin&rsquo; Institute for Nocturnal Observations (DINO) on our late-night mission of discovery. Then, grab your flashlight and explore the halls as the lights go out. This is a night at the museum you won't forget!</p>
