Using the Biomechanics: The Machine Inside exhibition as a case study, participants will examine lines of symmetry, shape, proportion, and structure as tools for understanding movement, adaptation, and survival in the natural world.

Come meet Field Museum Collections staff Chris Philipp and Julia Kennedy as they discuss rarely-displayed masks from the A.B. Lewis collection, new contemporary items, and various media from the Field's Papua New Guinea collection. At nearly 35,000 items, the Field Museum cares for the largest collection of material from the country of Papua New Guinea currently in the United States.
This session is the third in a series that celebrates Wan Bel: a PNG Collective Global Exhibition, commemorating the country of Papua New Guinea's 50th Anniversary of Independence.

This event celebrates the culmination of a three-year journey exploring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) histories and stories through education, community partnerships, and museum learning. The event will feature a screening of Making Waves: The Rise of Asian America, a film by JJML Productions, followed by a panel discussion with educators and young advocates who helped champion the TEAACH Act in Illinois. Breakout sessions, cultural activation stations, and cultural performances to follow. Field Museum Connections: AANHPI stories and the TEAACH Act programming is made possible with the generous support of the Cyrus Tang Foundation.

Join us as we welcome international puppeteers, the Rugao Puppet Art Troupe, for an unforgettable performance at the Field Museum!
The city of Rugao, located in the northeastern part of Jiangsu Province, China, is the birthplace of Rugao Rod Puppet Theatre, listed among the Province&rsquo;s first items of intangible cultural heritage.&nbsp;
Designated as the official institution for preserving and transmitting this traditional art form, the Rugao Puppet Art Troupe have performed the world over and have earned numerous awards at international festivals, including the 21st International Puppet Festival and the 4th European Puppet Arts Festival.&nbsp;
Come experience their latest production, comprised of 11 short puppet skits, including adaptations of classic Chinese mythology such as The Monkey King, original animal fables like The Little Ostrich, and impressive traditional &ldquo;face-changing&rdquo; acts. Combining heritage techniques with creative storytelling, these performances offer a vivid, innovative, and uniquely captivating experience of Chinese puppetry.

Pre-Registered Illinois <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/field-trips">field trips</a> are FREE everyday of the week!
Free Wednesdays are the perfect opportunity for you to explore our basic admission exhibitions with your family or a group of science-loving friends. Adventure through the wilderness on a desert safari, explore ancient civilizations, and come face-to-face with prehistoric creatures&mdash; all in one place. The Field Museum has so much to explore, you&rsquo;ll need more than just a day to see it all. But don&rsquo;t worry&mdash;Wednesdays are free for Illinois Residents.
Tickets for Free Days are only available to Illinois residents. For your convenience, free day tickets are available for advanced reservation online. Please present your proof of Illinois residency alongside your mobile tickets for express admission into the Museum. Tickets will also be available onsite subject to availability. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Advanced reservations for IL Free Day tickets are at capacity for Wednesday, 3/26. A limited number of tickets may be available onsite day-of, but we suggest you plan to visit another time.
<h2>Proof of Residency</h2>
Tickets for Free Wednesdays are only available to Illinois residents. No special coupon, ticket, or pass is required to enter the Museum during Free Admission Days. Just present a current Illinois driver's license, state ID, or Chicago CityKey card at the ticket desk to establish proof of residency. If you do not have an Illinois identification card, you may establish residency by showing a valid photo ID along with one of the following:

<li>Illinois library card</li>
<li>Illinois student ID with photo</li>
<li>Illinois utility bill</li>
<li>Illinois work ID and check stub</li>

<h2>Museums for All</h2>
Can't make it on a free day? We offer <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/visit#special-offers">Museums for All and other discounts</a> all year long.
Families who qualify for state food assistance can receive $3-per-person Basic admission for up to six people. Just show an EBT (Link) or WIC card when you purchase tickets at the museum. You cannot take advantage of this special offer when buying tickets online.

Explore the intersection of human longevity, cultural practice, and nutrition science.

Join the Healthy Living With A Vision Foundation as we explore the intersection of human longevity, cultural practice, and nutrition science. Visitors will be introduced to the concept of the world's "Blue Zones" and the dietary and lifestyle commonalities that promote long, healthy, and meaningful lives in these areas. We will also discuss the Foundation's 28-Day Plant-Based Kick Start, and ways to implement the FEARLESS Wellness model into our own lives: Food, Exercise, Avoidance of toxins, Restorative sleep, Lessening stress, Engaging the mind, Social energy, and Spiritual connectivity.
Presenters from Healthy Living With a Vision Foundation include Dr. Ansel Johnson (Founder and CEO); Shanelle Brandon (Vice President, Board of Directors); Dr. James Thompson, MD (Medical Director); Dr. Angela Wheeler, MD (Speaker Bureau Chair).

For this week's PlayLab PlayDate, families with 2-6-year-olds are invited to a free, drop-in storytime session for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Hang out in the PlayLab for this interactive read aloud and corresponding craft activities.

The featured book will be&nbsp;I am Brave: A Little Book about Martin Luther King, Jr. by Brad Meltzer.

Families with 2-6 year olds are invited to a free, drop-in program celebrating the wonders of winter and World Snow Day, January 18, 2026. Guests will get to explore animal specimens and the features that help them survive the cold. Visitors can also experiment like scientists, mix ingredients together, and use tools to create their very own snow!

Calling all junior herpetologists! Slide into the Crown Family PlayLab for a fun-filled morning of hands-on reptile exploration and discovery.
Designed especially for children ages 5-6 and their caregivers, this engaging program brings our special exhibit Reptiles Alive! to life through play-based scientific exploration and discovery. Together, you will get up close with real specimens, craft your own reptile-inspired creations, and explore what makes these scaly creatures so amazing!
Come ready to wonder, wiggle, and learn. It's going to be reptile-tastic!

See the best of what the Field Museum has to offer in this 45-minute guided tour presented in American Sign Language.

Join us virtually on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 4-5pm for a professional learning opportunity designed to engage educators in deep content learning with the Museum&rsquo;s collections, with particular emphasis on the Cyrus Tang Hall of China.&nbsp;
This program will help educators incorporate drama in the classroom &ndash; whether in-person or in a virtual setting &ndash; in order to engage students in the study of culture and religious traditions.
Participants will:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Understand: How to use theater and storytelling to teach young audiences about culture and religious traditions.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Do: Participate in drama and improvisation activities to explore the major themes and Buddhist values present in the stories of Guanyin and the Journey to the West.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Feel: Prepared to integrate drama and storytelling to teach cultural content.</li>
</ul>
