Slither your way into the Grainger Science Hub and meet Sara Ruane, Women&rsquo;s Board Associate Curator of Herpetology and Director of Core Laboratories in the Negaunee Integrative Research Center. Sara will introduce visitors to Coolio, her pet ball python, and highlight her research on snake evolution. Discover Sara's interests and hobbies outside of her research while learning about her journey to becoming a scientist.
Stop by the Comer Gallery during your museum visit to check out the Changing Face of Science: Sara Ruane exhibition, opening on April 11. This exhibition series highlights women and/or scientists of color who are breaking barriers in their field to challenge the traditional idea of who can be a scientist. From fieldwork in Madagascar to training her poodles, the exhibition will highlight many facets of Ruane&rsquo;s life and work.

<h2>Keynote</h2>

On May 21, 2025, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome Sera Young, PhD as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.

Dr. Young is a Professor of Anthropology and Global Health at Northwestern University, and she has dedicated her career to understanding how women work to preserve their health and that of their families. Her research focuses on maternal and child undernutrition in the first 1,000 days of life, particularly in low-resource settings.

Notably, Dr. Young led a large team in the development of the first globally equivalent way of measuring water access &ndash; the WISE (Water InSecurity Experiences) Scales. These scales have been used by 100+ organizations in 50+ countries to tackle some of the world&rsquo;s most pressing health challenges.

She has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed publications, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, and National Geographic. Recent accolades include the Margaret Mead Award for her book Craving Earth, an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, and the Norman Kretchmer Memorial Award in Nutrition and Development.

On Sunday, June 8, 2025, guests will enjoy a delicious brunch with bottomless mimosas, live DJ entertainment, and breathtaking views aboard a cruise ship on Lake Michigan. This fundraiser is hosted by the Field Associates young professionals' board, which supports the Field Museum's mission through philanthropy, advocacy, and volunteerism.

<li>If you've purchased tickets incorrectly by mistake, you have until 2 weeks prior to the event to request a refund. After the two week period no refunds will be given, and you will not be admitted to the event.</li>

Meet team members from World's Best Cat Litter&reg; during this interactive educational program that will engage young minds with hands-on activities and fascinating insights into the world of domestic cats, including cat care, cat physiology, and the impact of different types of cat litter. Guests will learn how corn is transformed into natural cat litter, tips on responsible cat care, and how differences in cats' bodies and types of cat litter can affect how they experience the litter box.

Dig deep into the amazing world of armadillos! Examine real specimens to observe differences in their shape and size and discover the characteristics that make armadillos unique in relation to other mammals. Learn about the human impact on armadillos and the effect of climate change and poaching on reducing their populations.

Join us in person at the Field Museum on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10am-2pm for an engaging professional learning opportunity designed to help educators bring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) narratives into their classrooms. This workshop will explore practical strategies to meet the requirements of the TEAACH Act by incorporating South Asian and Filipino American stories and showing educators how to integrate inquiry-based oral histories into instruction and community spaces.&nbsp;
Gain insights from our community partners Duty to Country, which highlights the legacy of Filipinos and Americans in WWII and their fight for recognition, and South Asian American Policy &amp; Research Institute (SAAPRI), which documents the untold stories of South Asians who immigrated to Illinois between 1945 and 1965. Discover valuable tools to celebrate AANHPI voices year-round and enrich your students' learning experience. Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and elevate AANHPI storytelling in education!
Registration is open to formal and informal educators of all levels. Illinois Educators will earn 4 hours of Professional Development for attending this workshop.

The Field Museum has announced a price increase for 2025 Dozin' with the Dinos tickets. Standard, Tour, Premium and Group tickets will increase by $10 and Ultimate SUE tickets will increase by $5. The price increase is in effect as of November 1st, 2024.&nbsp;
