Join us at the Field Museum on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10am-2pm for a professional learning opportunity designed to engage educators in deep content learning with the Museum&rsquo;s collections, with particular emphasis on the Cyrus Tang Hall of China.
This program will help educators incorporate drama in the classroom in order to engage students in the study of culture and religious traditions.
Participants will:
<ul>
<li>Understand: How to use theater and storytelling to teach young audiences about culture and religious traditions.</li>
<li>Do: Participate in drama and improvisation activities (and shadow puppetry!) to explore the major themes and Buddhist values present in the stories of Guanyin and the Journey to the West.</li>
<li>Feel: Prepared to integrate drama and storytelling to teach cultural content.</li>
</ul>
Registration is open to formal and informal educators of all levels, though activities for this session are most applicable for teachers of Grades 3-8.
Illinois Educators will earn 4 hours of Professional Development for attending this workshop.

PlayLab PlayDates

Families with 2-6 year olds are invited to a free, drop-in storytime session hosted by the Chicago Public Library (CPL) in honor of Native American Heritage Month. In this interactive storytime session, guest readers from CPL will read stories honoring Native American history, culture and identities. Join us for a fun-filled PlayDate with stories, songs and more!

The&nbsp;Crown Family PlayLab offers families with 2-6 year olds a weekly PlayLab PlayDate on most Wednesdays. PlayLab PlayDates are free, drop-in activities featuring storytime sessions, music and movement circles, science experiments and more.&nbsp;Program length varies, usually from 20 minutes to 1 hour.

PlayLab PlayDates are free to museum guests, don&rsquo;t require pre-registration, and take place on IL Resident Free Days! Sessions take place in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibitions/crown-family-playlab">Crown Family PlayLab</a>.

Tickets for Free Wednesdays are only available to Illinois residents. No special coupon, ticket, or pass is required to enter the Museum during Free Admission Days. Just present a current Illinois driver's license, state ID, or Chicago CityKey card at the ticket desk to establish proof of residency. If you do not have an Illinois identification card, you may establish residency by showing a valid photo ID along with one of the following:
