Systems Biology - Studying Biology with Mutant Flies

Teaching Systems Biology and Genetics Through Inquiry

Rebecca Spokony, Ph.D. is a postdoc at the University of Chicago.  She is creating resources to study transcription factors in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.  By attaching a green fluorescent protein tag to the transcription factors their location can be studied visually and their genome-wide DNA binding patterns can be studied biochemically. This video can also be found on The Field Museum's Vimeo page.

"Using a Systems Biology approach has lead me to think about more positive and negative feedback interactions between pathways."     – Dr. Rebecca Spokony, University of Chicago
